WHAT SIZE RUG DO I NEED?

Before you decide on what handmade rug style you want, you need to ensure you have measured your space carefully to get the exact measurements. Avoid guessing, approximating and rounding off as this can easily lead to mistakes, and thus the beautifully handcrafted rug not fitting in your ideal space!

Below we’ve listed the factors to consider when purchasing a handmade rug for a specific place in your house.

Dining Room Rug

When choosing a dining room rug, you need to select one that compliments your chairs & tables. You would want the rug to extend beyond the backs of all the chairs, otherwise those that are seated on said chairs may have a wobbly experience on an uneven surface. The average rug size for the dining room is 240cm x 320cm, but it’s always a good idea to measure the area after your chairs are pulled out, just to be sure this size will fit your area.

Living Room Rug

There is a lot more versatility and customising with a living room rug. The larger the handmade area rug is, the tighter it will pull in all the other aspects of the room. Our suggestion is to use a centerpiece, such a coffee table, to act as the focal point and plan around that. The two most popular sizes for living room rugs are 160cm x 230cm or 200cm x 300cm.

Bedroom Rug

The handmade rugs we provide can be used to add a touch of flair or even add a level of soundproofing to your bedroom. Just make sure that your rug extends beyond the frame of your bed, and, if you like, extends beyond your night stand too. The ideal bedroom rug sizes are 200 cm x 300cm or 240cm x 320cm.

Kitchen, Foyer & Hallway Rugs

The most popular kind of kitchen rugs, foyer rugs and hallway rugs, is a style of handmade rug known as “runner rugs”. These have a more rectangle shape than your traditional rugs that normally measure about 120cm x 170cm in size, but be sure to measure your area just in case.

Because we source from different vendors to provide you with the best value possible, you may see a variation of up to 5% of the published dimensions in your rug. This happens across the industry, but rest assured it will still compliment your space very well.

How to clean a rug?

Congratulations! You’ve just bought a beautiful handmade rug, now how do you ensure this timeless art piece stays in pristine condition? Before worrying about professional carpet cleaning services, you can take a couple of precautions to protect your rug.

Rug Spills

Whenever there is a spill on your handmade rug, clean them immediately. Try blotting the affected area as wiping or rubbing will fray the knotted yarn and scrub the stain into the fibers.

Avoid Sunlight

Some handmade rugs can fade due to natural sun bleaching properties of sunlight. We recommend if it is at all possible, to keep the rugs away from sunlight.

Regular Vacuuming

Ensure to shake & vacuum all the loose dirt particles our of your rug regularly - on both sides, without the beater brush. Additionally, rotating your handmade rug every 5 - 6 months will prevent wear that can make your rug uneven. When vacuuming, use the lowest available setting to prevent fibers from being pulled out of the rug backing. If you own a natural fiber rug, be sure to vacuum the area underneath the rug periodically.
Sprouts that appear on the surface of the rug should be snipped at a level. Do not pull the fiber out.

Rug Storage

When storing your handmade rug away, be sure to roll with your rug pattern facing outwards in a well ventilated, dry area. Additional protection such as a breathable cloth bag will help allow the fibers of the handmade rug to stay in mint condition.

For deep cleaning, professional assistance is highly recommended.

Rug Shedding

Shedding is a natural feature of all spun yarn, so it's normal for new rugs to shed yarn fibers. Depending on the weave type of your area rug and where it is being used, it may continue to shed throughout its lifetime. Proper and regular vacuuming will help pick up rug fibers and keep the rug looking fresh and clean.

Rug Colours

The images we display have the most accurate colors possible. Please keep in mind that color variances may occur with handmade items; remember, these pieces are unique and made by local artisans. In some instances, patterns may vary according to size as well.
